Exhibition “The Yellow Rain”

Exhibition at the Casa Heredia Exhibition Hall, Graus

“The Yellow Rain” by Julio Llamazares, illustrated by Antonio Santos

From August 17th to September 10th, from 9am to 14pm.

The Yellow Rain, written by Julio Llamazares in 1988, has become a symbol of rural exodus. The novel is a poetic narrative that invites reflection on the abandonment of Pyrenean villages, emigration, depopulation, uprooting, loneliness, time, death, sanity, and madness.

Thirty-five years after its publication, the Provincial Council of Huesca has produced a special edition of the novel, illustrated by the artist Antonio Santos. The engravings that make up the exhibition, along with a selection of the original linoleum plates, manage to reconstruct in images the story of the last inhabitant of the village of Ainielle, just as Llamazares conveys his tale to the reader through words: in a precise, poetic, and devastating way.

Antonio Santos is an illustrator, writer, sculptor, and painter. With over sixty solo exhibitions and more than fifty published titles, his graphic work has been recognized with awards such as the Daniel Gil Prize for Best Children's Book in 2003 and the second National Illustration Prize in 2004.
