The slopes east of Benasque conceal some of the valley's most beautiful and best-preserved forests, as well as unique panoramic views of the Pyrenees. The proposed route connects Benasque, Anciles, and Cerler , following ancient traditional paths that combine physical challenge with stunning scenery.
The route can be started in either Benasque or Anciles. From the Hotel Aneto , the trail begins with a steep climb through mixed forests of hazel, oak, and pine, ascending steadily until reaching the picturesque village of Cerler , the highest village in the Aragonese Pyrenees. From here, the trail continues to the ski resort parking lot, a point offering spectacular views over the Ésera Valley and the surrounding peaks.
From this point, the route descends more gently towards Anciles , through meadows and pastures that evoke the traditional use of the mountain. The return to Benasque is along the Camino de la Ribera , a pleasant path parallel to the Ésera River that offers the opportunity to enjoy the coolness of the water and the riverside vegetation.
This is a route with considerable elevation gain , recommended for hikers accustomed to mid-mountain trails. The combination of forests, charming villages, and proximity to high peaks makes this one of the most comprehensive options for discovering the essence of the Benasque Valley.
