Lecture “Sacred Light. Luminous phenomena in sacred spaces of Aragon” by José Miguel Navarro

Light, as a vital metaphor and guiding thread, allows the author of the LUX SACRA project to explore different sites, both natural and cultural heritage, where this element plays a fundamental role in understanding, in their true dimension, various spaces that have been sacred since prehistoric times in northern Aragon. The result of work that combines disciplines such as architecture, astronomy, symbology, hagiography, history, and topography, numerous locations have been identified, most of them previously unseen from this perspective, where light, at some point during the year, takes center stage, creating sunlit scenes of extraordinary beauty and elaborate symbolism. This book documents these phenomena photographically, attempts to interpret them, and details the most favorable days and times for viewing them. It also includes information from many other locations, reinforcing the theory that, far from being a mere anecdote or functional element, light has been fundamental from a metaphysical perspective in the design of sacred spaces in numerous cultures around the world.
