Noel Mega wins the Secastilla mountain bike race

oldNearly one hundred bikers gathered for the 12th Secastilla Mountain Bike Race, the second event of the 10th Ribagorza Region Mountain Bike Circuit. It was an excellent morning to enjoy the sport of cycling, with participants tackling a demanding course of almost 44 km and over 1.100 meters of elevation gain, and another 26 km course for the children's, cadet, and master 60 categories.
The race was close in the first few kilometers, although the initial climbs began to thin out the peloton, with a group of seven riders reaching the summit of the first climb, joined by a few more on the subsequent descent. But before reaching the village of Puy de Cinca, and after tackling the steep ramps of the second major ascent, Noel Mega began to establish his lead, carefully conserving his energy for this second phase of the race, which proves so challenging for most participants due to its significant elevation changes, high temperatures, and accumulated mileage.
Eloy Suils (master 30), Álvaro Rico (master 30), Andrés Aguilar (elite) and Javier Lain (elite), in addition to the winner of the race, Noel Mega (master 30), went under 2 hours and 5 minutes, making a significant difference with their immediate pursuers.
Of particular note is the seventh place overall finish of Catalan Eduardo Blasco (first in the Master 50 category), demonstrating his exceptional current form. Narciso Barranco (10th overall) was the winner of the Master 40 category, and Daniel Tejero (15th overall) won the Under 23 category.
In the women's category, with a total of eight participants, Vane Señis was the fastest. Following her, Marta Fillat and Lilian Soriano took second and third place, respectively. In the regional category, Eloy Suils and María Monzón were the top finishers, confirming a strong presence of cyclists from the Benasque Valley, as well as their Catalan neighbors from Pont de Suert, who also came to Secastilla, along with cyclists from other parts of the provinces of Huesca, Zaragoza, Lleida, and Barcelona.
Organized by the sports service of the Ribagorza region and the Secastilla town council, the event had the important collaboration of the Nuestra Señora del Llano de Secastilla Women's Association, as well as Viñas del Vero, Ciclos Salamero, the Red Cross, the Civil Guard and Civil Protection.
