Ribagorza Dinosaur Museum

In the heart of Arén's historic center, on the site of the former town hall—the historic Casa de la Vila—stands the Ribagorza Dinosaur Museum , a space that combines architectural heritage and scientific outreach. The building's restoration has preserved its emblazoned façade , integrating original elements with a modern architectural intervention that alternates open and bright areas with more intimate and evocative ones, creating the feeling of exploring an archaeological dig.

With over 500 square meters of exhibition space , the museum offers an immersive journey through time, guided by paleontology but with a spirit akin to archaeology: rescuing and giving meaning to the traces of the past. Dioramas, reconstructions, original fossils, and audiovisual resources allow visitors to understand what Ribagorza was like more than 65 million years ago , in an era before the great extinction that marked the end of the dinosaurs.

This center is an extension of the Paleontological Museum of Zaragoza and houses valuable fossil pieces discovered in local excavations. Its importance lies not only in its scientific value, but also in its role within the archaeological and paleontological tourism of the region, by directly connecting research with the visitor experience.

The museum visit is enhanced by the possibility of exploring two nearby archaeological sites:

  • The fossil bone site, which can be reached by an easily accessible marked trail, taking approximately one hour on foot from the town center.
  • The ichnite site, located on the outskirts, where fossilized footprints of great heritage value can be seen.

Both routes, equipped with explanatory panels, invite you to discover the link between the geological history and the cultural legacy of Ribagorza , uniting in one experience the excitement of archaeology and the fascination with the natural megalithism of time.
