Museum of History and Traditions of Ribagorza
The Ribagorza Museum of History and Traditions , also known as Casa Paco , is a unique space that preserves and disseminates the essence of Ribagorza culture. Located in the heart of Graus, this museum was born thanks to the legacy of the passionate local collector Vicente Turmo Mur , who for more than three decades dedicated himself to recovering, restoring, and conserving pieces of great ethnological value, as well as recording much of the region's folklore and customs on video. His work, supported by the Graus Museum Foundation and the Vicente Turmo Mur “Pallasón” Cultural Association , culminated in the museum's inauguration on March 16, 2011.
The building, with its main entrance on Fermín Mur y Mur Street , has 659 square meters distributed across three floors and cellars , offering visitors a journey through the tangible and intangible heritage of Ribagorza. Its collections include 5.000 digitized photographs documenting festivals, families, and moments in the town's history since the late 19th century. In addition, there are objects representing traditional trades, agricultural tools, antique toys, school supplies, household items, and pieces related to daily life in the region.
One of the most special sections is the area dedicated to audiovisual materials , which houses a valuable archive of historical recordings, interviews, and footage of local celebrations. The museum also pays tribute to the festivals of Graus with an exhibition of giant papier-mâché figures, traditional musical instruments, costumes, and other elements of the festive culture.
Its mission extends beyond mere exhibition: it actively works to recover and restore tools and implements , recreate lost trades, collect music and oral traditions, and disseminate this heritage to new generations. In this way, the museum becomes a bridge between the past and the present, essential for understanding the history of Ribagorza and appreciating the richness of its folk culture.
